Vitamin Enriched Skincare Designed To Protect and Improve Your Skin

At Aromatherapy Clinic, we have created skincare products containing all natural ingredients. Each batch is handmade in Sydney, Australia and shipped worldwide from our online store.

All of our skincare and beauty products contain therapeutic grade essential oils, no synthetic fragrances or chemicals. We use only the highest quality ingredients sourced from reputable suppliers that implement stringent testing and quality assurance methods.

We designed a small range of nourishing body butters, healing hand and nail lotions, a soothing foot lotion and hydrating face mists. All of the ingredients were chosen for their specific properties and benefits to the skin.

We have two different hand and nail lotions. One contains a base of citrus essential oils and the other contains lavender essential oil. Our hand and nail lotions also include:

  • Hazelnut oil to help tone and tighten skin
  • Macadamia nut oil which is rich in fatty acids that mimic the natural sebum in your skin and helps to moisturize and nourish your skin deeply
  • Wheat amino acids extract for skin repair and moisture retention to keep your skin plump and glowing
  • Vitamin A, aka retinol, to reduce wrinkles and support the growth of new skin cells
  • Provitamin B5 to hydrate and soothe minor skin irritations
  • Vitamin E, a potent antioxidant that helps protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals.
  • Rosemary leaf extract which is rich in antioxidants that can help protect the skin from oxidative stress, has anti-inflammatory properties that may calm irritated skin and acts as a natural preservative, extending the shelf life of our homemade lotions.

The peppermint foot lotion is a popular choice to soothe tired legs and feet at the end of a long day. In addition to almond oil, hazelnut oil, vitamin E and rosemary leaf extract we included:

  • Comfrey extract which assists in wound healing, reduces inflammation and assists in the formation of healthy new skin cells.
  • Grapefruit seed extract for its antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.

At Aromatherapy Clinic we have developed a deeply nourishing body butter that leaves your skin feeling soft and supple. Our Patchouli and Bergamot Hempseed Body Butter contains:

  • Shea nut butter and cocoa butter to hydrate the skin and create a protective barrier to lock in moisture.
  • Calendula extract and calendula infused oil for their anti-inflammatory properties
  • Hempseed oil which is deeply nourishing for your skin.
  • Rose water to calm skin irritations and reduce redness.

What Causes Snoring and Sleep Apnea?

Snoring and sleep apnea are both sleep-related breathing disorders that can disrupt a person’s sleep and have negative health consequences. They have different causes, but there can be some overlap in contributing factors.

What does apnoea/apnea mean?

The spelling of the word apnea differs between the UK and the US. In Australia, both spellings are used and both are correct. The word apnoea stems from the Greek words a = no and pnea = breathing.

Causes of Snoring

Snoring is the sound produced when airflow is partially obstructed during sleep. It is often caused by the vibration of the soft tissues in the throat, including the uvula and the soft palate. Some common causes of snoring include:

  • Sleeping Position: Sleeping on your back can cause your tongue and soft palate to collapse to the back of your throat, partially blocking the airway.
  • Obesity: Excess weight, especially around the neck, can put pressure on the airway, leading to snoring.
  • Alcohol and Sedatives: These substances relax the muscles in the throat, increasing the likelihood of snoring.
  • Nasal Congestion: Blocked nasal passages due to allergies, colds, or anatomical issues can contribute to snoring.

Causes of Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a more serious condition characterized by repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep. There are two main types of sleep apnea:

  • Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA): This is the most common type. It occurs when the muscles in the back of the throat relax excessively during sleep, causing a complete or partial blockage of the airway. Factors contributing to OSA include obesity, a large neck circumference, and genetics.
  • Central Sleep Apnea (CSA): CSA is less common and occurs when the brain fails to transmit the proper signals to the muscles responsible for controlling breathing. It is often associated with certain medical conditions like heart failure and stroke.

In both snoring and sleep apnea, lifestyle factors can play a significant role in their development and severity. Lifestyle changes, such as losing weight, avoiding alcohol and sedatives before bedtime, and changing sleep positions, can help reduce the severity of these conditions.

If you suspect that you or someone you know may have sleep apnea, it is essential to seek medical evaluation and treatment, as untreated sleep apnea can lead to serious health problems, including cardiovascular issues and reduced sleep quality.

Aromatherapy Clinic’s aromatherapist, John, has always been a very loud snorer. He has developed the Anti Snoring Blend to help reduce or, in some cases, eliminate snoring and sleep apnea. The Anti Snoring Blend is a mixture of only the highest quality essential oils and works for about 90-95% of all snorers who have tried it. One bottle of this powerful blend lasts for up to 3 months because you only need to use a few drops every night. We offer a 100% money back guarantee so you can try the Anti Snoring Blend risk-free. If it doesn’t work for you within 30 days, send it back to us and we will even pay the return postage cost.

How Are Essential Oils Made?

Essential oils are complex mixtures of compounds extracted from plant material. Different parts of the plant are used to make essential oils including the seeds, fruit, stems, petals, bark, leaves, roots, etc.

Essential Oil Extraction Methods

There are various methods to extract essential oils from plants. The method of extraction depends on the type of plant material and desired chemical compounds to be extracted. Some extraction methods used today include steam distillation, solvent extraction and cold pressed extraction.

The active ingredients and the properties of an essential oil are related to the extraction process.

Plant Extract vs Essential Oil

Essential oils are undiluted concentrates of chemical compounds taken from plant material. While plant extracts are essential oils that have been diluted in a solvent.

Quality Matters When Choosing Essential oils

Not all essential oils are created equal. It’s important to choose high-quality, pure essential oils from reputable sources. Look for oils that are labeled as 100% pure and have undergone rigorous testing for quality and authenticity. Aromatherapy Clinic sources only the highest quality essential oils from reputable suppliers. We have an extensive list of individual oils available on our website. If you require a specific essential oil that is not on the list, please contact us to request your required oil.

Is Aromatherapy Safe?

There are many ways to enjoy the benefits of essential oils. However, there are guidelines to follow to safely incorporate essential oils into your life. If you don’t use essential oils properly, you risk harming your health. Follow these rules to ensure you stay safe and healthy when using aromatherapy in your daily life.

Is aromatherapy safe to apply to the skin?

Some essential oils are very mild and are able to be applied to the skin without dilution. Most essential oils require dilution before application to the skin. When in doubt, ask a qualified aromatherapist. For aromatherapy massage on a large area of skin, pure essential oils should always be diluted first in a carrier oil such as jojoba, coconut or olive oil.

Is aromatherapy safe for ingestion or internal use?

No, it is not recommended that you ingest any essential oils. Avoid putting any essential oil inside your nostrils, ears, eyes or open wounds. Essential oils can irritate or burn the sensitive tissues of the body.

Is aromatherapy safe for children?

The safest way for children to enjoy aromatherapy is through diffusion in the air using an oil burner or diffuser, or carefully inhaling directly from the bottle. Some essential oils can cause irritation as children can have sensitive or delicate skin. If applying to children’s skin, dilute essential oil in any cold pressed carrier oil before application.

Is aromatherapy safe for pregnant women?

Some essential oils should not be used around pregnant women as there is a small risk they may be harmful and cause complications in the pregnancy or to an unborn child. There are certain essential oils that can cause uterine contractions which may induce labour before the baby is ready to be born.

Is aromatherapy safe for animals?

Animals have a very sensitive sense of smell so you must be careful about which essential oils you diffuse in the air of your home or office. There are many essential oils that should not be used around pets as they can be irritating or toxic to their airways. Also be aware of applying essential oils to areas of your skin that may come into contact with your pets.

The History of Essential Oils

Where did aromatherapy begin?

Throughout history there has been evidence of humans trading and using essential oils, not only for their aroma but also for their health benefits and healing properties. The knowledge of distillation techniques to extract essential oils from plants has been passed from ancient Egypt, the Middle East and ancient Greece, through to the middle ages. These civilisations used essential oils in religious ceremonies, for cosmetic purposes and to protect against illnesses such as the black plague.

What modern science tells us today

All around the world scientific studies have investigated the purported properties of different essential oils. With the increase in antimicrobial resistance, researchers have been looking for solutions to treat diseases that are becoming resistant to antibiotics, antifungals and also pesticides. There are many scientific studies testing how effective essential oils are against viruses, bacteria and fungi and other studies that aim to test the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of essential oils.

Tips to incorporate Aromatherapy into your life

Aromatherapy can be incorporated into your daily life in many simple ways.

You can diffuse essential oils in a diffuser or oil burner which will fill a room with the aroma of the oils.

Add a few drops of your favourite essential oils to your shower or bath to boost your mood in the morning or help you wind down after a long day.

Open a bottle of essential oil and inhale the aroma directly from the bottle.

Our in-house aromatherapist, John, has designed all of our therapeutic blends so that they are ready for application. Some essential oils are more gentle and can be applied directly to the skin but most essential oils should be diluted in a carrier oil such as jojoba, olive or coconut oil before application. It is important to test the oil first on a small patch of skin. If you have sensitive skin or a reaction to an essential oil, dilute further in the carrier oil or discontinue use on the skin.

For aromatherapy massage on a large area of skin, ensure the essential oils are diluted in a carrier oil before application.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any aromatherapy questions or enquiries regarding or our all natural range of therapeutic products.

Harness the Properties of Essential Oils

There are different grades of essential oils. Some are cosmetic grade or synthetic which are used for their perfume, are cheaper and do not have any healing properties.

Therapeutic grade essential oils are extracted from plants and are not necessarily used for their aroma or scent but for their healing properties and beneficial effect on the human body. Each essential oil has its own different set of properties. We harness these unique properties in our original Therapeutic Blends, created by our in-house aromatherapist right here at the Aromatherapy Clinic.

Immune Booster bottle and box

The properties of essential oils vary between each oil and can range from calming and warming to analgesic (pain relieving), anti-inflammatory and even immune boosting. Or you can add certain essential oils to your homemade cleaning products for all natural anti-microbial action.

Whether you’re looking to soothe sore muscles, increase joint mobility or boost your immune system Aromatherapy Clinic has the blend for you. Try any of our Therapeutic Blends risk-free with our money-back guarantee.

How To Extend The Shelf Life of Essential Oils

Essential oils that are properly stored have a very long shelf life, however, if they are not stored properly they can oxidise and lose their healing properties.

UV radiation, light, heat and oxygen can affect the integrity of your essential oils.

Have you ever wondered why essential oils are stored in glass bottles that are either amber or cobalt in colour? These colours help to block certain wavelengths of light and UV rays to protect the essential oils inside.

If your essential oils have changed in scent and/or appearance this is a sign that the essential oil has degraded and may not perform the same as when it was fresh.

Storage tips:

Minimise the amount of time your oils are exposed to bright light: Keep your essential oils stored in a cool dark place such as a drawer or cupboard.

Reduce the amount of time the oil is exposed to oxygen to prevent oxidation: Recap the lid of the bottle as soon as possible.

If you have any questions about essential oils please feel free to contact us.

Don’t Kill, Repel

Spray bottle of natural mosquito repellent by Aromatherapy Clinic

Have you been searching for a natural and effective way to prevent biting insects from landing on you?

Essential oils are the found inside the cells of plants and are used by the plant for protection against pests and also to attract pollinators. You can consider essential oils to be part of the immune system of plants.

Aromatherapy Clinic has designed our Mosquito Repellent to prevent most blood-sucking insects from landing on you. We aim to deter the pests rather than disrupt the natural ecosystem.

Our Aromatharapy Clinic Mosquito Repellent has a subtle woody and earthy scent which quickly disperses, leaving you with an invisible shield of protection against biting insects.

The natural essential oils in our Mosquito Repellent protects against mosquitoes, sand flies and other biting insects. We have tested it during the Australian Summer and found that it does prevent blood-sucking insects from biting by stopping them from landing on you altogether.

To use: Shake the bottle well to disperse the essential oils then spray our Mosquito Repellent into the air above your head, creating a mist that lands on your exposed skin and clothing. This creates a shield, stopping the insects from landing onto you or your clothes.

Harmful toxic pesticides can not only affect our human health, but they can also kill pollinating insects that are crucial for the health of the plants in our environment. It’s important to be aware of the environmental impact of the products we use as they can have long-term negative effects on the world around us.

Spotlight On Spikenard

Monthly Comfort bottle and box

Spikenard essential oil has been used since ancient times, noted in the Christian bible as a rare and precious oil. It is now a critically endangered species due to over harvesting and its difficulty to cultivate. It still grows in the Himalayas and is also known as Indian nard.

Spikenard (Nardostachys jatamansi) is a plant species that is native to the Himalayas, and is known for its fragrant essential oil that is extracted from its roots. There are different species of spikenard, with Nardostachys jatamansi and Nardostachys grandiflora being the most commonly used for essential oil production.

Both species of spikenard are known for their grounding, calming and relaxing properties, and are often used in aromatherapy to promote emotional balance and to help with sleep. However, Nardostachys jatamansi is considered to be the more commonly used species, and is known to have a stronger, earthy aroma with a slightly sweeter note compared to Nardostachys grandiflora.

Overall, it’s important to note that while different species of spikenard may have slight variations in their properties, they are generally considered to have similar therapeutic benefits.

Aromatherapy Clinic’s in-house aromatherapist, John, has created the Monthly Comfort blend which includes spikenard as the main ingredient. Spikenard is used to relieve muscle contractions, muscle spasms, neuralgia, insomnia, and other symptoms related to the menstrual cycle. It can be applied to the abdomen or ankles within 1-3 days before the menstrual cycle begins. Note that spikenard essential oil should not be used around pregnant women as it may cause the body to start a period or menstrual cycle.

Feel free to reply to this message or email us at info@aromatherapyclinic.com.au for all your aromatherapy-related questions.
